A call for papers has been announced for the Alliance for International Education 2008 Conference to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, October 24-28, 2008. The Conference theme is “International Education: A Bridge to Intercultural Understanding”.
“Educating for Global Citizenship” is the goal of the Alliance for International Education. Its stated purpose is to bring “together all those who are committed to advancing international and intercultural understanding through education [and] promotes collaborative ventures that enhance the learning of relevant concepts, skills and values”. See www.intedalliance.org and www.aie.org.cn.
The last conference in Shanghai in 2006 was held for the first time outside Europe, and it was the first time a special workshop was included on Early Childhood Education, conducted by Oxford Professor Kathy Sylva and Yew Chung Education Foundation Director Dr. Betty Chan, who also chairs the Hong Kong branch of PECERA.
PECERA (Hong Kong) has approved Dr. Betty Chan to use the PECERA (Hong Kong) website to announce the Alliance for International Education 2008 Istanbul Conference. The AIE is an opportunity for ECE specialists to do presentations that broaden our global concepts and how to develop international mindedness among young learners. Abstracts of papers or presentations must be submitted to AIE by March 31. For more information about AIE, requirements for the abstracts, and deadline for submissions, see www.intedalliance.org and www.aie.org.cn.
Why should PECERA members consider submitting papers to the AIE conference? The Alliance for International Education is an umbrella for many organizations, academic institutions, educational agencies, scholars, researchers and practitioners with the goal of linking and creating partnerships among a wide variety of educationalists. ECE impacts all education and other fields such as architecture, nutrition, interior design, health and wellbeing, etc. This is an opportunity for ECE specialists and practitioners to link with like-minded organizations committed to advancing international and intercultural understanding through education.
